Down but surely not out !

The Manchester city versus Arsenal match yesterday was probably one of the best games of the season so far and certainly the best for the week. An enthralling  show of soccer artistry, grit defending, world class saves a host of missed opportunities.

In the end a lot of chances were created in the game but David Silva struck the only goal as Arsenal went down 1-0 at Manchester City.

Arsenal were settling down after a defensive reshuffle following the loss of Johan Djourou and that was exploited by city. The goal came via via arsenals right wing after balotelli raced down the flank unhindered !! Koscielney who had been stationed at centre back but was moved to right back after djourou exit was nowhere near his new position and alex song was left in a one on one situation with the italian. On a yellow card already, the was little song could doas he could not  jump into any hard tackle and was beaten.

Not dwelling too much on the goal i would like to look at some postives and negatives from the game.

Notable points

  1. In the goal keeping department, i would say both goal tenders were brilliantly excellent. The scoreline was a testament to some great goal keeping at both ends. These two players are surely 2 of the best keepers in the premiership (I stand to be corrected) I for one will stay with Joe Hart as the best, Wojciech Szczesny as the 2nd best and worm as the 3rd.

2. Winning a game not only depends on the starting eleven but on the bench. Suffice to say that City has that in abundance but in arsenal, the bench didnt make any difference. The likes of  Andrey Arshavin and Marouane Chamakh that came in for arsenal did not make the desired impact. Credit goes to  Ignasi Miquel who showed he was ready for the big one. Arsene Wenger needs to get a worthy replacement/ backup for RVP in the winter transfer window.

3. City are actually are not invinscible. the stats show that city had 53% possession in the first half to Arsenals 47%. The 2nd half had the tables turned with arsenal having 52% possession to city's 48%. A game of two halves surely.

At full time, Manchester City had proved themselves worthy to be restored as Premier League leaders but Arsenal had proved that they can be counted amongts the big ones.  As an arsenal fan, this is one defeat that didn't sadden me much because we were playing against the richest and best team this season

The EPL is surely going to be interesting this season!!! The top 6 or 7 sides scrambling for 4 top champions league spots.

Have a sporty week !!

  1. Like I said 2 of the finest young goalkeepers, I will stay wit Szczesny, kept Arsenal in the game in first half.. Saves after saves,I can only wonder what Almunia was thinking.. Bench is vey important,Rosicky n Benayoun would have been a better sub.. Natural Hustlers,y park never makes the Bench is a mystery

  2. I do wonder about park too, why he doesnt make the bench considering the fact that he has a 2 yr non-renewable contract
